Tournament
Rules
The NFL Alumni/Shriners
Charity Golf Classic is an official NFL Alumni handicapped scramble. Each
team member will tee off from their designated starting hole. The team
shall select the most desirable tee shot, from which the second shot will
be played. The second shot will then be played by each team member and
continue this format until the ball is holed out.
Each team member may place the ball within one club length of the selected
shot, but not nearer to the hole. If a selected shot is played from a
hazard, bunker, rough, second cut of rough, fairway or fringe of the
green, again the ball may be placed within one club length of the selected
shot, not nearer to the hole, and must remain in the hazard, bunker,
rough, second cut of rough, fairway or on the fringe of the green.
When putting, you must place your ball within two (2) inches of the
selected shot, not nearer the hole. Teams are cautioned not to make
tap-ins until all members have had the opportunity to attempt the team’s
original putt. Once any ball is holed out, no further strokes count. A
team score is then recorded and the team moves to the next hole.
If a team should consist of only four members, the fifth shot will be
played on an alternating basis by each team member, starting with the
tee shot on the first hole, through the final putt of the hole. This
alternating shot rotation will be played on each shot/putt of the entire
round.
All other USGA rules are in effect. On the score card, only one score
is recorded after each hole. The celebrity captain and the official
scorer must agree on the score before entering the score on the
scorecard. Final scores of each team will be official only when the
celebrity captain and official scorekeeper have signed the scorecards.
Closest to the Pin and Hole-in-One designated prize holes are clearly
marked.
Long Drive Hole are
clearly marked.
Note:
This tournament is a handicapped team scramble tournament. Each
foursome is paired with a former NFL player who will captain the team.
All winners' handicaps are subject to verification, and only teams with
verified handicaps from all five members will be eligible for prizes.
In an attempt to level the playing field, tournament scoring rules
penalize teams for having more than one "A" player (0-8)
handicap, and/or more than two "B" players (9-16) handicap.
The scoring system is based on a team handicap derived by taking the
lowest handicap in the fivesome and multiplying that number by 35
percent. Decisions of the Tournament Golf Committee on handicapping,
penalties, and scoring are final.
Announcing
the Winning Team/Ties/Decision-Making Authority:
Regardless of what is posted on
any hand-written or electronic scoreboard, the winning teams shall not be
determined until the NFL Alumni golf tournament chairman has verified the
scores, verified the handicaps, and verbally announced the winning teams
to all golfers in attendance at that time. If for any reason there is a
tie, then the team with the lowest score on the highest handicapped hole
will be declared the winner (e.g. if hole #4 is the No. 1 handicapped
hole, the team with the lowest score on hole 4 will be declared the
winner). If there is a tie on the highest handicapped hole, then the No.
2 handicapped hole will be used to determine the winner, if there is
still a tie, then the No. 3 handicapped hole will be used, and this
process will continue for all 18 holes until the tie is broken. In the
event there is any dispute, discrepancy, or other scoring issue
whatsoever, the NFL Alumni golf tournament chairman shall have full
authority to make any and all eligibility and/or scoring decisions and
determine the winners. Such decisions shall be final and binding on all
parties. All rules are subject to change without notice.
Purpose of
Golf Tournament:
While this is a competitive
golf tournament with a significant first place prize, all golfers
understand and acknowledge that this is first and foremost a charity golf
tournament whose purpose is to raise money to further the NFL Alumni's
mission of "Caring for Kids." All golfers shall conduct
themselves at all times in a manner that reflects the purpose, spirit and
intent of this golf tournament.
All
rulings by the Playoff Chairman are final.
