NFL Alumni Charitable
Activities
The primary fund-raising activity is the NFL Alumni Charity
Golf Classic Tour, the largest of its kind with over 25 tournaments
annually.
The Alumni Classics are one-day, 18-hole team scramble events at which
average golfers of all ages make contributions to the Alumni in lieu of
entry fees, and tournament expenses are underwritten by sponsor
corporations to free tournament income for "adopted" charities.
The tournaments are played at the finest golf and country clubs in the
United States, and have earned the reputation among corporations of being
a great way to entertain customers, have fun, and enjoy camaraderie with
the Legends of Pro Football. Their unique attraction is they give the
average golfer an opportunity to compete in a major national
championship.
The winning team at each Alumni Classic receives an invitation to the
Super Bowl of Golf, the Alumni's national championship tournament whose
winning team receives the Super Bowl of Golf ring, a massive gold
circlet ring patterned on the NFL Championship rings.
Since 1979, when pilot tournaments were held in Detroit and
Philadelphia, the Alumni Classics have been successful in raising
money for charity. Funds raised have gone to more than 175
"adopted" charities, and have made the Alumni a primary
supporter of the NFL Alumni Foundation Fund, major supporters of the
Special Olympics in several states, and the main source of funds for
several children's charities.
